Connectors are needed for easy disconnect during maintenacen, removal or installation of a power suppply. Here's some examples used by the Molex brand. They are simple to set up and handle low to medium current drains around the 8-amp area.

The inside (top) view revels two different versions of the AC input entry, depending on site/RFI requirements.

This image shows a "reverse" polarity on the pins. This is normall not done, and would provide confustion on installs.
